My longsuffering readers may be relieved to know that I cannot find my diaries from the 80s! However I have found Liz's London diaries and I can still base this work on Dad's Striking a balance. Looking for the diaries I found a file of our Tasmanian holiday organised through Friends of the Koala and flying Singapore Airlines (definitely the best!) I am also aware of numerous boxes containing programmes and brochures over the years which I did start to seriously weed some time ago! It just seems most convenient to write all this chronologically.
It might be worth reflecting that by 1984 I had gone from a bachelor existence to married with 3 children. We had our own home and had already travelled extensively. The chorus took up most of my spare time plus church and I was once again playing every Sunday morning rather than singing. Money was limited but we were happy. We had various schemes to earn a bit more. I had one day a week at home with the children which was great. Liz was starting to go back to work on that day. We had a car and enjoyed family holidays very much. It is interesting that I was playing in the Anglican church. The Catholic church seemed to offer little to musicians but this was soon to change for a while - 19 years in fact.

With Aunt Gladys in Norwich. This would have been on one of our lovely holidays on the Norfolk coast thanks to Chris and Fran Tew who lived in Balham.
