Florrie Tate

Florence Elsie Dewes 1907-1979. We knew her as Florrie Tate but she was not a relation. She lived in Priory Street with my Granddad and it was thought that her mother was the midwife when Granddad was born. His parents died young so he was adopted. Florrie had several names and ended up in Cornwall. She came to our wedding wearing a hat for the whole time and stayed with Grace. Later she visited us but it was a disaster as she smoked! I had no sooner returned from a chorus trip to Spain when I had to go to Cornwall for her funeral. I was greatly relieved when a neighbour offered to take her 6 poodles. She left her "jewellery" to Dad valued at £300 but actually worth very little!. Dad did have pictures by J. Ridsdale Tate which I now have. He was an important York artist and he designed the King's Book (of which more later). We were to find out a great deal more about him later on.
